Meet Christian Geismann

Meet Christian Geismann, CFO of Schuchart in Seattle, WA. He took some time to sit down with us and share more about his life in and out of the office. Check it out:

Q1: What time did you wake up this morning?

A1: 5:30 a.m. It is so very early, but it's also so very quiet. The calm helps relax me as I start the day and reading The Seattle Times each morning gets my brain stimulated.

Q2: What's your guilty pleasure?

A2: Goldfish crackers, especially flavor-blasted. I might actually be addicted. And I can't blame the addiction on my kids as I've loved these since college. I blame college.

Q3: Do you have children?

A3: Three daughters, currently aged 6, 3, and 1. Busy times... It's great to see them in their different stages and show their various personalities, and I'm excited (and a bit nervous) as they continue to grow.

Q4: What are you reading right now?

A4: The Premonition: A Pandemic Story by Michael Lewis. After reading Moneyball and watching the movies adapted from some of his other books (The Blind Side and The Big Short), I became a big Michael Lewis fan.

Q5: What do you want to be remembered for?

A5: I would like to be remembered for making a positive impact on the world. A lot of us want to change the world for the better, and I think we all can in our own ways.

Q6: How did you get into accounting?

A6: I have always been intrigued by business and business operations. And I thought I wanted to pursue a focus in marketing until my sister, a CPA, told me outright that I would be terrible at marketing. I should focus on what I'm good at: accounting. I started getting more involved in Beta Alpha Psi (a college-level accounting organization) and pursued public accounting and became more intrigued.

Q7: What have you learned about being a leader?

A7: I have learned that being an effective leader is more about listening, observing, and asking questions than it is about directing.

Q8: What do you do to unwind from work?

A8: I love watching baseball. There are many who believe the game is too slow, and they have a point. However, there are games in which the "chess match" within the game is so fascinating to watch.

Q9: Where did you grow up at?

A9: The beautiful city of Seattle. My heart will always be here.

Q10: What was your first job?

A10: When I was in high school, I was a "manny" for three children during certain afternoons in the school year and everyday in the summer. Best job ever. We played outside all day and went everywhere around town and just when the kids were about to "lose it" in the afternoon, their parents came home and I left. I don't get to do that now.
