December 12, 2007

On December 12, 2007 as part of the All-Industry meeting, CFMA-Maine offered a half day seminar entitled “Introduction to Construction Accounting”. The seminar was presented by Sean R. Ferguson, CPA, CCIFP and George M. Thomas, CCIFP, both past presidents of the Maine Chapter. The 40 attendees learned the basic characteristics that differentiate construction accounting from other industries. A “Sample Company” financial statement was provided as a background document. The presenters described the work-in-progress schedule, estimates required to calculate earned revenue and the resultant impact on the balance sheet and income statement. Several commonly used analytical tools were also discussed.
