On September 11, 2007 the Maine Chapter of the CFMA sponsored an educational seminar on Advanced Accounting and Taxes for the Construction Industry which was held at the South Portland Marriott. Our distinguished guest and presenter at this event was Robert A. Davidson, CPA of Davidson, Golden & Lundy, P.C. Robert’s company is one of the largest and most well respected accounting and consulting firms serving the construction industry.

With nearly 75 attendees from various construction and construction services companies throughout the State of Maine, the wide range of accounting topics presented during the seminar provided the audience with an in-depth view of income recognition and reporting procedures unique to the construction industry. Other topics presented by Robert during the seminar included:

·        Ten Causes of Construction Failure

·        Contractor Benchmarking Procedures

·        Key Internal Controls and Procedures

·        Succession and Continuity Planning

·        Construction Claims and Change Orders

The Board of Directors of the Maine Chapter would like to take this opportunity to thank all attendees as your participation in this seminar was crucial to the success of this event. It is the board’s intent, on at least an annual basis, to continue to bring top-notch speakers into Maine in order to present relevant topics to all members of the construction industry. We encourage your feedback on both topics and speakers who you feel may be of interest to your industry peers.

In closing, I would again like to thank everyone for their attendance at this event. For those of you who were unable to make this seminar, we can provide you with a PDF. file detailing all topics covered during the seminar. Please contact me at 207-582-2338, extension 1910, if you would like to obtain this file.

Sincerely,

Bill McLean
